Ark Nova: Marine Worlds, an expansion for Ark Nova, introduces several new elements to the game, such as sea creatures that all have to be played in new special places that have to be built next to water.
About half of the sea creatures are reef residents, and every time you add a reef resident to your zoo you activate the ability of all the reef residents in your zoo. To address the randomness of the deck caused by adding more cards, all sea cards have a wave icon. Whenever such a pattern is revealed, discard the first card in the row and replenish it.
A new fourth university is available on the board, and taking it will claim one of six special universities from the reserve with a research icon and one of six animal icons. When you take this, you reveal cards from the top of the deck and take the first face-up card with an animal icon that corresponds to your chosen university.
Four alternative versions with a little twist are available for each of the five action cards. Players draw action cards at the start of the game and replace two of their standard action cards with these new cards, increasing the asymmetry in the game.
New bonus tiles and scorecards are also added.
