Bei AGM-Batterien ist der Elektrolyt (Mischung aus Wasser und Schwefelsäure) zum größten Teil in einer Glasfasermatte gebunden. Dieser Batterietyp ist völlig wartungsfrei und es gibt bei normaler Verwendung keine Gasbildung. Außerdem können diese Batterien überall installiert werden.

Aufgrund ihrer Konstruktion werden sie bei sehr hohem Stromverbrauch sehr schnell entladen, weshalb sich AGM-Batterien ideal für Systeme mit einem hohen Stromverbrauch eignen (zum Beispiel beim Starten des Motors). Die Batteriepole können abgeschraubt werden. Dieser Batterietyp kann mit jeder Standard-Batterieanschlussklemme kombiniert werden.
