Femseven Description
FemSeven is a skin patch containing oestrogen, designed for women going through menopause.
Unlike other HRT treatments, this one contains just one hormone.
You place the patches directly on your skin to help ease the symptoms.

What is FemSeven?

Femseven is a patch you apply to your skin to help relieve menopause symptoms. It's also called FemSeven Mono because it has just one active ingredient, estradiol hemihydrate, which is a type of oestrogen hormone. Some other HRT treatments include a medication called progestin, which is a synthetic form of the hormone progesterone. These are referred to as combined HRT.

Who is FemSeven for?

FemSeven patches are designed for women who have gone through menopause and haven't had a period for more than a year. If you're beginning to notice perimenopausal symptoms and still have irregular periods (often called the menopausal transition), you'll be given a different treatment, such as Evorel Sequi.

Oestrogen-only HRT treatments, such as FemSeven, are most suitable for women who have had their womb removed (a hysterectomy). This is because taking oestrogen on its own for an extended period can raise the risk of developing endometrial hyperplasia (thickening of the womb lining) and endometrial cancer (cancer of the womb lining). If you haven't had a hysterectomy, you'll be prescribed a treatment that also includes progesterone. Progesterone helps to balance the effects of oestrogen in the body, lowering the increased risk of cancer.

How does FemSeven work?

The menopausal transition occurs when a woman's ovaries produce less oestrogen and progesterone as she ages. This drop in hormone levels can lead to symptoms such as low mood, anxiety, hot flushes, difficulty sleeping, and vaginal pain or dryness.

FemSeven patches are placed directly on your skin, enabling your body to absorb oestrogen from them. This helps to balance your body's oestrogen levels and alleviates menopause symptoms. Although it won't 'cure' menopause, it should make your symptoms much easier to handle, or possibly even eliminate them altogether.

What doses do FemSeven patches come in?

FemSeven patches come in three different doses. You'll be given the lowest dose needed to manage your symptoms for the shortest time possible to reduce the chance of side effects. If you think your dose isn't quite right, whether it's too high or too low, have a chat with your clinician. They'll help you find the dose that suits you best.

The smallest dose of FemSeven patch you can get is FemSeven 50. Each patch has 1.5 milligrams of estradiol and delivers a 50 microgram dose daily. If this dose isn't enough to manage your symptoms, your doctor might recommend switching to FemSeven 75 patches. These have 2.25mg of estradiol and release 75 micrograms over 24 hours. The strongest dose available is FemSeven 100, with each patch containing 3mg of estradiol and releasing 100 micrograms per day.

How long does it take for FemSeven to work?

When you begin your menopause treatment with FemSeven, it may take a few weeks to notice the full effects. Generally, you'll use the treatment for about three months before discussing it with your clinician. If it's easing your symptoms, you'll probably carry on with the therapy and have regular check-ups. These appointments ensure the treatment remains safe and appropriate for you. If it doesn't, your clinician might adjust your dose or switch the type of HRT you're using.

What should I do if my FemSeven patches aren’t sticking?

If your FemSeven patches aren't sticking well, there are a few tips you can try. Ensure the area where you're placing the patch is not oily, irritated, dry, or broken. This will help the patch stick properly. Next, press down firmly on the patch for at least 30 seconds. The warmth from your body and hand will help it adhere better. You can also press down on the patch for up to 30 seconds in the morning or during the day to keep it secure.

If your patches are still coming off, you might want to try using a clear film to keep them secure.

If your patch begins to come off before the seven days are over, take it off entirely and put on a new one. Make sure to change this new patch at the same time you would have changed the original one.

What should I do if I make a mistake using FemSeven patches?

Always use your FemSeven patches exactly as your clinician has advised. If you forget to change your patch after seven days, put on a new one as soon as you remember. Then, continue with your usual schedule and change the new patch a week from when you missed the change.

If you accidentally use more patches than recommended, take off all the patches you're wearing. You likely won't need any treatment, but you might notice some bleeding similar to menstruation. If you're worried, contact your doctor or healthcare professional.

Can FemSeven patches cause side effects?

While using FemSeven, you might experience some side effects, although not everyone does. The most common ones are vaginal bleeding, fluid retention, breast tenderness, headaches, and mood changes.

After using HRT for roughly three months, these side effects should subside.

One of the more serious side effects associated with HRT is a higher risk of certain cancers. Treatments containing only oestrogen, such as FemSeven, have been connected to a greater risk of endometrial cancer. Additionally, combined HRT medications have been reported to increase the risk of breast cancer.

If you've had a hysterectomy, you generally don't need to be concerned about the risk of endometrial cancer. However, if you have endometriosis, or have had it in the past, it's a different situation. Endometriosis involves tissue similar to the womb lining growing in other parts of the body. In such cases, you might still be at risk of endometrial cancer in those areas, and a combined treatment would be more suitable for you.

There is a connection between combined HRT and a higher risk of breast cancer, but this risk may be less for younger women. It's believed that during the menopausal transition, particularly close to menopause, the advantages of HRT treatment significantly outweigh the risks.

For women over 60, this might not apply.

Do FemSeven patches cause weight gain?

Some women have mentioned putting on weight while on HRT. However, there's no scientific proof at the moment that HRT causes any noticeable weight gain.

How effective is FemSeven?

In a study involving 142 postmenopausal women, participants were given either FemSeven or Systen. Both treatments helped alleviate symptoms such as hot flushes, insomnia, headaches, vaginal dryness, and loss of libido. Although both groups experienced an improvement in their health-related quality of life, the improvement was more significant in those using FemSeven compared to those using Systen.

What are alternatives to FemSeven?

There are many options available for HRT, depending on what you need. If you still have your uterus and require combined HRT, FemSeven Conti patches might be suitable. These patches contain the progestin levonorgestrel along with estradiol, which helps lower the increased risk of endometrial cancer associated with taking estradiol.

If you're experiencing irregular periods, FemSeven Sequi is a type of combined HRT known as sequential HRT. With sequential HRT, you take oestrogen-only HRT continuously, and then add a progestin for the last two weeks of your monthly cycle. This typically leads to a menstrual bleed towards the end of each month.

Can you use FemSeven patches when you’re pregnant?

FemSeven is meant only for postmenopausal women, so it's not suitable for those who are pregnant. If you happen to become pregnant while using FemSeven, stop using it immediately and contact your doctor.

Is FemSeven Prescription only?

Yes, you'll need a prescription to use FemSeven patches. This is to make sure they're safe for you. Contact our experts, and they'll advise you on the most suitable HRT treatments for you.

Avene Hydrance LIGHT face lotion
This is a light face lotion which is smooth and penetrates the skin nicely. There is another product by the same company that looks exactly the same except it does not say LIGHT. I have that product too and for me, that is too heavy and lays on the skin - I feel like I have something on my face. This line is pricey but my dermatologist recommended this and overall I like the entire product line.

Perfectly Lightweight
I have very sensitive skin and tend to get oily in the summer, so I was looking for something lightweight and this delivered! It has a mild scent and feels great on my skin. It also keeps my skin moisturized without causing any irritation or breakouts.

Non greasy moisturiser for winter
Avene has been a well known brand all around Europe, Australia and Asia; easily accessible from most Chemists. We haven't tried their products before as I had the habit of picking skincare based on my friends' recommendations and Avene was not in their radar. From our last trip overseas, I decided to pick this up to try and immediately fell in love with it! It is non greasy yet very effective in dry months. Price point is also reasonable and I have re-ordered on Amazon since! Highly recommend it.

Good for combo skin. Scented.
This moisturizer has a lightweight texture. It reminds me of a gel-cream. It does have a floral/powdery/fresh scent. It doesn’t bother me that much but a lot of people don’t like scented face products. I took off one star for the fact that it’s scented because I feel it’s unnecessary. Especially since this moisturizer is labeled for sensitive skin. I also feel like it is pricey for the small 1.3 floz bottle. It seems a bit basic for $40 doesn’t it? I have combo/acne prone skin and I am currently on prescription tretinoin/hydroquinone cream from my dermatologist. I needed a face moisturizer that is light and wouldn’t clog my pores but also super hydrating. My skin is very sensitive right now and I had no issues with this moisturizer. I felt it provided the perfect amount of hydration without being greasy and heavy feeling on my face. I don’t like heavy moisturizers. The hydrance rich version is way too heavy for me. The finish of this light moisturizer is soft and doesn’t leave a sticky feeling, like some face moisturizers do. I can wear this year round. It is hard to find the perfect balance of hydration without being greasy. Overall I will keep purchasing it because I am extremely picky about the texture of my face moisturizers and this one is perfect for me. It also wears well under sunscreen and makeup. I do think it’s a little overpriced and the fragrance is unnecessary. Overall it works for me but it’s very important to know about the floral fragrance. The fragrance does go away after a little while but it is present upon application and also minutes after. If you don’t mind the fragrance and have combo, acne prone skin like I do, you will probably like the texture. If you don’t want to pay the money for this avene, try vanicream face moisturizer. The cerave pm face moisturizer is also kinda similar. The vanicream face moisturizer being the most similar to avene light, in my opinion. Vanicream is also unscented and a fraction of the price. Make sure it is the one specifically for the face, without sunscreen. I was not sent this product for free and this is not a paid review. All honest opinions here.
