Come and join us to celebrate the start of summer in the Northern Hemisphere with the sun at its highest on Sunday 20th June 2021.

This summer walking challenge is a 22 mile (35.4) event with about 9 -10 hours of walking. This new challenge starts and finishes in the beautiful village of Goathland, known internationally as Heartbeat Country.

Surrounded by high moors and interlaced with cascading streams and waterfalls, Heartbeat Country is a walker’s paradise. You will experience the Mallyan Spout Waterfall, which at over 60 feet, is the tallest waterfall on the North York Moors.

Surrounded by an abundance of crosses, stones and ancient monuments, makes this one of the most intriguing walking locations within the National Park. Situated on the popular North York Moors railway line with its magnificent steam engines Goathland station was also used by Warner Brothers as the setting for Hogsmeade Station in Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone.

The Route

We meet outside Scripp’s Garage at 0800 ready to walk.

From the start we head off and join the Rail Trail (now there’s a story) before turning south and follow the river path to the Mallyan Spout waterfall. From the Mallyan Spout we climb the steps at the side of the hotel and cut across the moor to meet the Lyke Wake Walk route and head east towards the ancient burial mound at Simon Howe. From Simon Howe we turn south and enter Cropton Forest before we cross the North York Moors Railway line at Newtondale Halt. The route then follows the prominent trail along Levisham Bottoms to Skelton Tower. From the tower we head south through Levisham Wood and pick up the Tabular Hills Walk at Farwath and head north into the village of Levisham, (refreshment may be available at the Horseshoe PH). Heading back to the moor we follow the top path along Levisham Moor and the Hole of Horcum, where you experience the stunning views across the valley and low Horcum way below.

Just before we meet with the main track/A169 road junction the route goes north and heads back to Newtondale Halt, and we cross over the railway line for a second time. From here we follow a reciprocal route back to Simon Howe, and make our way across Goathland Moor to Moorgates, and head back to Goathland along the Centenary Walk, and back to Scripp’s Garage and pop in next door for a well-earned drink at the Inn on the Moor.

Perfect for my dog
Color: Blue Puppy, Size: Medium Size 2
My dog (16 lb) LOVES to whip her toys around and throw them in the air to chase after them. This is the perfect toy for her to play outside by herself. I would repurchase for her over and over again if needed!

Pup loves this!
Color: Blue Puppy, Size: Medium Size 2
My pup loves his soccer balls. These are very durable although if you have a dog that doesn't grasp the concept of using the loops/straps to carry it, teeth could puncture it. They are a good value for the money if your dog likes to chase the ball, I get the smaller size ball for my dog (medium dog). They come with a pump but if you have a bicycle pump or a battery operated pump, it will fill much faster. Ours stay outside and even in the winter, they hold up well, just need a bit more air occasionally to keep it pumped up.

Well that didn't last long!
Color: Blue Puppy, Size: Medium Size 2
He loved it for the 15 minutes it took to destroy it! Cute design, but the material was thin enough to penetrate with his teeth and it was all over in a very short time! He still carries the carcass around and tries to play with it...it's sad. Definitely not for strong chewers.

Decent ball
Color: Blue Puppy, Size: Medium Size 2
Context: I have a busy, anxious Corgi. I like that it came with a pump to air it up. My dog likes the tag feature on it which made the ball easy to carry. She chewed off the tags pretty quick. She didn’t like herding this one as much. She prefers herding a basketball over this ball. The ball sits in the backyard through all the weather and elements and has held up pretty well. We’ve had it about a year and it’s still a good toy.
