The seventh in the series of Sonic Youth's SYR documents unearths even more fruit from the fields of Sonic improvisational/compositional love. On the heels of a lengthy investigation into their relationship to 20th Century classical music, the band took advantage of their millennial crossroads in 2000 via the adventurous, then-newfound All Tomorrow's Parties festival in the UK, on invitation from Mogwai. Besides it being historical as their last show as a foursome until 2006, it stands as a wholly unique set that not only delved into instrumental previews of the forthcoming NYC Ghosts And Flowers, but also featured an opening 20 minute group interpretation of a solo composition Thurston had performed at NYC's late/beloved venue The Cooler. With Thurston and Lee both sporting electric 12-strings, and Kim on her Eterna, the piece was set-listed as "New Drone", and took a right turn from the initial instrumental plan with Kim's added intonings that reflected on Sylvia Plath's relationship to her husband, hence retitled "J'Accuse Ted Hughes". It's a sublimely spaced out bit of one-chord introspection, though perhaps not what the festival punters were looking for at that moment. Certainly not the irked Melody Maker scribe who headlined his review "Goodbye 20th Century/Goodbye Talent", a screencap of which appears on the sleeve of this 2008 release. Sparks infamously declared "Talent Is An Asset", and one of SY's great ones was to give their deep listener faction something new and unheard to chew on. Initially live streamed in not-so-great quality, the SYR 7 mix ably accents the thunderous, phased crescendos that ebb and flow here. The flip of this release brings Jim O'Rourke into the fold with a piece for a never-completed collaboration with French clothing designer Agnes B. Recorded in 2003 in SY's home turf of Echo Canyon in downtown Manhattan, this 18 minute piece plumbs even deeper drone recesses and colorful dins. O'Rourke in the ranks led to a number of years that wed Sonic Youth's penchant for denser, long-form interaction with the songcraft style they perfected; this soundtrack piece in particular is a glimpse into the shared language as a quintet getting it's foothold.Brian Turner - April 2025

Great slippers but disappointing quality.
Size: 7.5-8.5 Women/6-7 Men, Color: Ash, Size: 7.5-8.5 Women/6-7 Men, Color: Ash
Extremely comfortable, attractive slippers but the stitching came loose on both leather trim areas almost immediately. I tried to sew/glue down the stitching (as seen in photo) but it kept unraveling. Disappointing as these slippers are great in every other way (though they do run a bit big...I wear a 9 but ended up with a 7.5-8.5 which fits with a bit of room to spare even with thick socks). I just hope they hold up after my latest attempt to stop the thread from pulling out any more as I do really love wearing them. Perhaps I just got a bum pair?

Quality and comfort
Size: 10.5-11.5 Women/9-10 Men, Color: Black
Comfortable and fit well. I got these to replace a very old pair that finally wore out! Warmth is medium (I wear puffer booties for when it's really cold). Quality on these is great!

Can't go wrong with Acorn for as long as they last!
Size: 12-13 Women/10.5-11.5 Men, Color: Charcoal
Acorn is just a great company all around. I had bought my husband these slippers over 20 years ago. They are still in great shape although the sole has worn in some places. But nothing's coming apart! However, I decided to replace them for him. His foot is 10.5 and they are a little hard to get on right away-of course, after over 20 years of having "worn in" the original pair, anything would feel tight. So I'm not holding this against them. They will relax with use. The only difference is that the original sole was black and these are tan. I think I would prefer the black, but since it's only being worn in the house, no big deal. My husband has really cold feet and these slippers never fail to warm his feet right up! He said they feel really soft to walk in and like the cushioning. They're not too heavy and fit him great! I have Acorn slippers myself that I've worn every single day in the house and outside to the mailbox too. They last.

You won't be sorry
Size: 10.5-11.5 Women/9-10 Men, Color: Black
Great padding for comfort and terrific warmth. I bought a pair of Acorns 30 years ago and still have them. Updated to a new color and now feel the benefit of newer padding! I used the sizing listed for shoes and like the roominess for thicker sox. Well made and a joy to put on. (Wisconsin)
