I read this book in two sittings. Ate it up like the delicious Carolina meal that it is. It's only the second MG witch book I have experienced since I am a big fan of contemporary realism. BUT I LOOOOOVED it. What a homer of a debut. We are all Katybird and Delpha, in so many ways. And my lord, it was like reading Tori Amos' childhood soul in some ways (I happen to know too much about her). What a gift to have read this book. Please give it as a gift to ever middle grader you know. Stunning. Well paced, and full of heart and grit. I look forward to more books from Ash. I believe anything they write will be worth my time. I imagine they can write a powerful YA, in addition to MG. Their style lends itself to capturing humanity on many levels. Big fan!
