The Voigtländer Bessa R4A is a 35 mm rangefinder camera built around the Leica M mount, enabling direct compatibility with a wide ecosystem of M-mount lenses. It features an electronically controlled, vertical-travel metal shutter with speeds from 8 s to 1/2000 s plus Bulb, synchronized for flash up to 1/125 s. The defining element is its ultra-wide rangefinder viewfinder, offering 21 mm, 25 mm, 28 mm, 35 mm and 50 mm framelines without external finders, optimized for wide-angle photography.

The camera integrates a through-the-lens coupled rangefinder with a long effective base length, supporting accurate manual focus. Aperture-priority auto exposure is driven by a center-weighted TTL metering system, with clear LED indicators in the finder.
