Properties:

Indications: PGA is recommended for general approximation or ligation of soft tissues, such as in ophthalmic surgery. It is not appropriate for cardiovascular or neurological procedures. Contraindications: Due to the quick decline in tensile strength, this suture is not advised if tissue under tension requires long-term approximation or if seam support is needed for more than seven days. PGA sutures are unsuitable for cardiovascular or neurological surgeries. Tensile strength: Studies involving subcutaneous tissue implants in rats indicate that PGA sutures retain approximately 65% of their original tensile strength two weeks post-procedure. Absorption: The absorption process is first evident as a decrease in tensile strength without a significant loss of mass detectable. The PGA suture is nearly fully absorbed within 60-90 days.
