See Enlargeable Pictures!

Published by DC Comics March 1960.  Cover by Curt Swan.  Feature Story written by Jerry Coleman (likely his first World's Finest story, see his biography below), penciled by Dick Sprang (a Batman artist of several decades), and inked by Sheldon Moldoff, one of Bob Kane's primary "ghost artists".  A Tommy Tomorrow story is one of the backup features.

A beautiful cover with no major flaws.  The cover reflects light well (about 80% of original gloss) with strong coloring and is relatively flat and smooth.   There is a minor color breaking crease between Batman's torso and right arm, two very minor ones at the bottom edge (near a star-creature spike), a six millimeter tear at the top edge to the right of "MAR.", a small portion of the right edge (to the left of "SUPERMAN" in the title box) torn away, along with general minor non-color breaking creasing (see Definition of a Crease below), though as mentioned the cover is relatively flat and smooth.  There is a number inked in to the left of the World's Finest logo.  There are a few trivial tiny spine stress marks.  Minor general soiling to the front cover and a bit more on the back cover.  Interior pages are very supple and white to a light cream at the edges.  The staples are well placed.  The color of the cover falls short of reaching the spine.  The cover is firmly attached to both staples.  The top edge is slightly creased, though the other edges are sharp.  The corners are slightly rounded.  The back cover has several minor flaws.  The book lies relatively flat with three of the corners rising 3 millimeters.  The book is complete with all pages securely attached with no interior tears or rips, except for a number of the tiny printer's perforations which often appear at the bottom of the page have turned into tiny holes.  A number of minor hard to see creases drop this book to a FN grade, but the cover still has much of its original appeal!!  The faces of the star-creatures are very amusing.

Comic Grading - Definition of a Crease.

Crease - A fold which causes ink removal, usually resulting in a white line.  This seems to be the sense of what a crease is to Overstreet's Grading Guidelines and most comic graders.  We note two categories of creasing in our descriptions, 1) color breaking and 2) non-color breaking.

For a color breaking crease, it must show that white line, though of course the thickness, length, and cover location of the crease are all important factors in how severely the crease actually degrades the cover's impact.

A non-color breaking crease is technically not a crease since it doesn't break color, but to those of us who have spent hours obsessing over our books, it is an interruption in the gloss or how the cover reflects light.  Take a smooth unblemished white sheet of paper and press your thumb nail into it several times using varying amounts of pressure.  As the paper is white there is no break in color, but depending on lighting and its angle to the paper eventually you would be able to see every point where the nail impressed the paper.  Again the noticeability, number, and locations of non-color breaking creases are factors affecting the quality of the cover.

If a cover is generally smooth, this means the non-color breaking creases present are interfering little with the cover's appearance.  These kinds of creases range from unnoticeable in normal viewing conditions to very intrusive.  A comic must be very carefully handled to avoid leaving these impressions at the edges.

Unfortunately, scans of the covers, even the enlargeable pictures we employ, do not always fully depict these imperfections.  We try to fill in the gaps by offering our estimate of what the Overstreet Grade would likely be, and by giving a detailed written description.

Like most comic buyers and graders we have exchanged thoughts with, we agree that Overstreet Grading Guidelines provide a helpful starting point to access a book's quality, but we all have our own tastes and biases, and sharp disagreements on various books as well as complaints about Overstreet's approach.  Different books will impress you differently than they would us, which is why we try to be detailed and factual.  We are merely trying to provide my buyers with enough background so the book received satisfies or exceeds the expectations generated by our listing.

Jerry Coleman's Biography

We have added this section on Jerry Coleman, partly because we have a number of World's Finest issues with his stories listed, but mainly because we like his philosophy of story telling.  It reminds us of how Gene Roddenberry's outlook shaped his vision of Star Trek.

The following is from Mike Grost:

Jerry Coleman was a frequent contributor to Superman during 1954 - 1960, and to World's Finest from 1960 - 1962.  He also worked on the other Superman family magazines.

Coleman's work tends not to emphasize mystery, or surprise twist endings.  However, this does not mean his tales are uninteresting.  Coleman's best works are profoundly satisfying.  Their unfolding stories show much imaginative detail.  The stories are constructed with logical, step by step detail, with each new event contributing to the overall basic theme.  Coleman's works lack padding.  Coleman was a positive thinker. Each event tends to contribute to the hero of his story achieving some admirable goal.  Coleman tends to write about people he admires.  The stories focus on heroes, not villains.

Strong Suction Cups
Color: Silver
I didn't realize that this caddy came with the option to use suction cups or adhesive hooks. I opted for the suction cups and was pleasantly surprised at their strength. I loaded the caddy up with a couple of sponges, fingernail brush, and a dishwashing brush (filled with liquid soap) and have had no problems with the caddy remaining strongly secured. It's a great little organizer and looks really nice.

GREAT Suction!! Looks fantastic!
Color: Silver, Color: Silver
I wanted to find a sponge holder with great suction for our ceramic sink. This is the REAL DEAL! I saw one or two complaints on the reviews below but obviously they are doing something wrong, because if you just follow the instructions (make sure the sink is clean and dry where you stick it), it works perfectly. I've had it for about 3 weeks now and we use it every single day and it has never slipped even once. The suction cups are big and made of good plastic so they really do the job. It hasn't budged from the spot where I placed it. It's also easy to take the caddy off of the suction cups when you want to clean the sink without moving the suction cups. You can peel them off easily and reposition them but they will not move unless you want them too. It's also the perfect size and looks great. Perfect for holding a stick sponge upright so that the soap doesn't leak out of it.

Great product. Suction can be improved though.
Color: Silver
I'm satisfied with my purchase. It gets the job done. The suction pads can definitely be improved though, I found that pads couldn't keep the holder in place for more than an hour so I just removed the suction pads and kept it beside my sink. Overall, great product. Would definitely recommend.

It actually sticks to the sink and stays where it is supposed to. Well made. We love it!
Color: Silver
Finely, a sink caddy that actually sticks to the sink! We have been so frustrated trying to find one that does. This one is great. We just used the suction cups, which are large and there are 3 of them. If finely actually stays there!
