"Quite possibly the most revealing book about the world of ballet ever to see print."--National Review "One of the most intelligent and introspective glimpses ever offered into one of the most competitive and excruciatingly nervous existences in the arts."--New York Times Book Review"Without entirely stripping away the glamour of being a dancer, Bentley's candid and modest account makes for a moving revelation about the price discipline and control exacts from young dancers in the name of art."--Chicago Tribune "A mini-marvel, impossible to put down. . . . As a dancer's-eye portrait of the choreographer, a divinity to Ms. Bentley as well as, apparently, to everyone else in the NYCB and to uncounted other ballet lovers in the world beyond, the book is invaluable."--New York Review of Books An irresistible inside look at one of the world's great dance companies, Winter Season is also a sensitive, intimate, and almost painfully honest account of the emotional and intellectual development of a young woman dedicated to one of the most demanding of all the arts. Bentley's association with the New York City Ballet began when she was accepted by the affiliated School of American Ballet at the age of eleven. Seven years later, she became a member of the company. In the fall of 1980, as the winter season opened, she found herself facing an emotional crisis: her dancing was not going well. At 22 she felt that her life had lost direction. To try to make something of her experience, on paper if not on stage, she began to keep a journal, describing her day-to-day activities and looking back on her past. The result is perhaps the closest that most of us will ever come to knowing what it feels like to be a dancer, on stage and off. It also offers memorable glimpses of some notable members of the City ballet, with, at the center, the man whose vision they all served--George Balanchine. Toni Bentley was born in Perth, Australia, and after moving to Bristol, England, took her first ballet lesson at the age of four. At the age of 18 she became a member of George Balanchine's New York City Ballet, where she performed for ten years. Since retiring from dancing, she has written Holding On to the Air with Suzanne Farrell (Farrell's autobiography), Costumes by Karinska, and Sisters of Salome, as well as articles for periodicals ranging from the New York Times, New York Newsday, and the Los Angeles Times, to Rolling Stone, Smithsonian, Mirabella, and Ballet Review.

Nice office chair!
Color: Dark
This is a nice office chair. All of the features work as stated. I would say the seat is slightly more firm than I prefer, but comfort is subjective. The pleather is soft and I like that the arm rests fold out of the way.

This Marsail Executive Office Chair Is Excellent For A Comfortable And Polished Desk Setup
Color: Dark
This Marsail executive office chair is excellent, and it brings together comfort, support and a clean professional look in a very practical way. The PU leather has a smooth, polished presence that suits a desk chair well without looking overly bulky. I appreciate that the design includes flip-up armrests, a height-adjustable seat, swivel movement and rolling mobility in one complete chair. The cushioning gives the chair a substantial seated feel, while the back design adds support without making the chair look heavy. It is an office chair that feels thoughtfully built for daily desk work, focused tasks and general seated comfort.
The chair arrived securely protected and in very good condition, with the main parts kept in place well through transit. The PU leather surfaces looked clean, smooth and free from distracting marks when unpacked. The base, wheels, armrests, backrest and hardware all appeared properly finished and ready for assembly. Nothing about the chair parts looked loose, flimsy or poorly handled when it arrived. The included components were organized.
The appearance of this chair is one of its strongest qualities because it has a dark, sleek and professional style. The chair fabric gives it a refined executive look, while the breathable mesh center keeps the backrest from appearing too solid or oversized. The flip-up armrests blend into the design nicely and add a cleaner profile when raised. The chair has a balanced shape, with a supportive back, plush seat and wide base that all work together visually. It looks modern without being too flashy, which makes it easy to place with different desks and work areas.
Functionality is where this chair becomes especially practical because it is easy to put together and simple to adjust. The height adjustment works well for getting the seat into a comfortable position at a desk. The swivel and rolling movement make it easy to shift, turn and reach without the chair feeling stiff. The reclining range and gentle rocking function add a useful option for leaning back during breaks. The flip-up armrests are especially convenient because they allow the chair to tuck under a desk more easily and create extra freedom of movement when needed.
The value is strong because this chair offers several useful features in one well-rounded design. The thicker cushioning, contoured support, PU leather surface, breathable backrest, reclining function and flip-up armrests all add to its usefulness. The sturdy base and stated 300-pound support rating also give it a more dependable feel than a basic desk chair. It provides the comfort expected from an executive chair while still offering space-saving details that make it practical. For the features, comfort and overall build, it delivers a very complete office seating option.
I highly recommend this Marsail executive office chair for anyone wanting a comfortable, polished and functional desk chair. It is excellent, easy to put together and built with enough adjustability to support different work habits. The combination of plush cushioning, ergonomic shaping, smooth movement and flip-up armrests makes it especially useful for a home office or workspace. I also like that it has a professional look without sacrificing everyday convenience. It is a strong choice for dependable seating that looks good, works well and offers solid comfort.

Comfortable for daily use!
Color: Dark, Color: Dark
After using this chair for work and general desk time, I think it does a nice job balancing comfort, adjustability, and overall build quality without feeling overly bulky or cheap. It feels designed for people who spend long stretches at a desk and want something supportive but still comfortable enough to relax in occasionally.
Assembly was straightforward. The instructions were clear, the hardware was organized well, and all the holes lined up properly during setup. I put it together by myself in around 20 minutes without needing extra tools. Once assembled, the chair immediately felt sturdy and stable rather than wobbly.
The overall quality is solid for this price range. The PU leather has a soft feel and doesn’t have the stiff plastic-like texture some office chairs use. The stitching looks clean, the armrests feel secure, and the rolling base moves smoothly across the floor. The chair also feels durable overall, especially around the frame and base where cheaper chairs sometimes feel weak or shaky after a few weeks of use.
It's very comfortable. The seat cushion is thick and supportive without feeling overly hard, and it stays comfortable during long work sessions. I’ve spent multiple hours at a time sitting in it without constantly adjusting positions or feeling pressure points. The mesh section in the backrest also helps airflow a bit, which keeps it from feeling too hot during extended use.
The lumbar support is great. The backrest naturally follows the curve of your spine and provides good lower back support while still feeling relaxed enough for casual sitting. I also liked the higher back design since it supports the upper back and shoulders well during longer periods at the desk.
The flip-up armrests ended up being more useful than I expected. They make it easy to slide the chair under the desk when not in use, and they also give more room if you like sitting cross-legged occasionally.
Solid chair overally. It has a good mix of comfort, support, ease of use, and practical features without feeling overpriced.
