  • The high altitude mineral-rich soils in Mexico are home to blue agave plants. When the plants have matured, the sap is centrifugally extracted and double filtered at low temperatures, without the use of chemical, to preserve the natural integrity.
    • Blue agave plants are specific to central Mexico where they are grown and harvested year-round. The plant is slow-growing and spreads runners from the mother plant. Some runners are cultivated for nectar and others are planted to become new mother plants. The plant is grown anywhere from 5-7 years until the carbohydrates are concentrated in the core known as the "pina."
    • After years of growing the plant stands several feet tall and its pina is ready to harvest. The plant is trimmed with a simple razor blade and the trimmings are left behind in the fields to restore soil and reduce erosion. When the pina is free of it's leaves it is pressed and the juice is collected and cleaned.
    • Agave juice is cooked or hydrolyzed and turns the juice into a sweet nectar. Each batch of juice is heated turning Inulin into fructose and thickening from liquid to syrup. When the process is complete the syrup is filtered which determines the final flavor and color. Lighter clear agave is more filtered than its dark amber counterpart which has more plant solids that contribute to its color.
    • Mexico covers around two million square miles of southern North America. The climate is divided into temperate and tropical zones by the Tropic of Cancer where the northern areas experience cooler winters and the southern areas experience fairly consistent weather year-round.

    Amazing book, but unnecessary
    Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
I would give this book 5 stars, but at the end of the day I don't think I can. I love flipping through it and looking at the color palettes and seeing the ways the artists communicated ideas through their limited palettes and spaces. There are also little 3D paper arts you can do of some of the sprites, like the fountain pictured above. It has helped me in my pixel art journey and it could 100% help you. The only reason I would say not to buy it is because all of the sprites are accessible online. If you want to understand the art on a deeper level and develop an appreciation for the passion that pixel art contains, buy it. If you want to look at them quickly as references and are an experienced pixel artist, it is not as useful, you could learn the rules just by looking at the sprites online, but you would miss the explanations and writings that help explain the art.

    Great for my Quilting!
    Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
I bought this book at launch and it has pretty much become my “bible” for Final Fantasy pixel art. I sew and love making nerdy quilts so when I saw this, it was a total insta-buy. It showcases so much original art as well as newly designed sprites (for both older and newer games). I honestly didn’t know about the newer games being designed as sprites so when I saw this, I immediately got to creating. Beyond this being a great pattern book for pixel quilting, I loved seeing a piece of FF history we don’t get to know about. Also loved the interview showcased. A good book for any Final Fantasy lover collection!

A great book for a fan of the early final fantasy series.
    Format: Hardcover
I love this book! I grew up with the NES and this brought back a lot of memories of how as a kid I would get lost in the creativity of what developers of these games made with only some blocks. I love pixel art and this book is great if you enjoy making your own and admiring the work of someone else's and seeing their imagination from some truly great games. This book is small in size but is perfect size to show blown up images of final fantasy pixel characters and creatures, also of places from the games. Also having final fantasy characters from beyond the Nintendo/SNES was a really cool surprise to see if they had been made in that era.
