Antique Czech Black Glass & Rhinestone Sash Buckle 1900–1915 Jablonec Glass Silver‑Tone
An elegant early Czech sash buckle dating to the 1900–1915 period, crafted with thin jet‑black Jablonec glass and a geometric square center set with clear rhinestones. The glass is bonded to a silver‑tone metal plate — a construction method used by Czech makers in the early 20th century — with the metal originally painted black to blend seamlessly with the glass.
The buckle is made in two interlocking halves with a center hook closure and two side bars designed for sliding fabric through before stitching it down. This engineering is characteristic of early Czech and Jablonec workshops transitioning from Art Nouveau into early Deco geometry.
There is a small marking on the reverse (“M” or “E10”), typical of Czech workshop batch codes rather than a maker’s signature. The buckle remains in very good antique condition, with three tiny, barely visible edge chips on the thin glass — expected for glass of this age and not distracting in wear or display. Stones are still bright, bonding is stable, and the closure functions cleanly. Age‑appropriate patina on the metal.
A striking, rare example of early Czech craftsmanship.
