Victron 250A 2-Position Busbar: Centralised High-Current DC Distribution for Marine, RV, and Off-Grid Systems

Engineered for Demanding 12V, 24V, and 48V Electrical Architectures

The Victron 250A 2P busbar provides a robust, professional-grade solution for consolidating high-current DC connections in mobile and stationary energy systems. Rated for a continuous 250 A at up to 70 VDC, this busbar is purpose-built to serve as the central distribution node for battery banks, inverters, chargers, and auxiliary DC loads. Its dual-position design with 12 terminal screws and two heavy-duty studs enables clean, organised wiring that reduces voltage drop and simplifies system troubleshooting.

Unlike generic busbars that rely on pressed-in bolts or thin copper strips, the Victron unit features a solid tin-plated copper conductor (6.35 x 25 mm) and insert-moulded stainless steel studs. This construction allows higher torque values and maintains low-resistance electrical contact over thousands of thermal cycles, making it particularly suitable for Australian conditions where temperature swings and vibration are common.

Key Features

  • 250 A continuous rating for high-demand battery and inverter connections
  • Dual 5/16" (approx. M8) stainless steel studs accept heavy-gauge lugs for main battery cables
  • 12 stainless steel terminal screws (10-24 / 4.8 mm) for secure distribution to smaller circuits
  • Insert-moulded studs eliminate the need for back-side nuts, enabling higher torque and superior conductivity
  • Removable ABS protective cover prevents accidental shorts and meets UL 94 V-2 flammability standards
  • Fire-resistant ABS base (UL 94 V-0) with pre-drilled mounting holes for secure, insulated installation
  • Compact footprint (41 x 201 x 38 mm without cover) fits neatly into crowded battery compartments

Why the Busbar Matters in Your DC System

In any multi-battery or multi-load DC installation, the busbar is the backbone of power distribution. A poorly designed busbar introduces resistance, generates heat, and creates unreliable connections that can lead to intermittent faults or even fire risks. The Victron 250A busbar addresses these challenges with a high-cross-section copper strip that minimises voltage drop, and stainless steel hardware that resists corrosion in marine and coastal environments. The raised bus design also provides easy access for ring terminals and lugs, reducing installation time and the likelihood of wiring errors.

Applications

This busbar is ideally suited for:

  • Marine electrical panels where space is limited and corrosion resistance is critical
  • RV and caravan 12V systems requiring a tidy, centralised connection point for batteries, solar charge controllers, and DC loads
  • Off-grid solar installations using 24V or 48V battery banks with multiple parallel strings
  • Commercial vehicle and heavy equipment DC power distribution
  • Backup power systems where reliable high-current connections are essential

Installation and Safety

Mounting the busbar is straightforward thanks to the integrated holes in the ABS base. The included protective cover snaps securely over the terminals, shielding live connections from accidental contact and debris. For optimal performance, torque the main stud nuts to the recommended 110 lbf·inch (13 N·m) and ensure all terminal screws are properly tightened. Always follow applicable electrical codes and consider using appropriately sized cable lugs for the 5/16" studs.

By choosing a Victron busbar, you are investing in a component that matches the quality of your other Victron equipment, ensuring seamless integration and long-term reliability. Whether you are upgrading an existing system or building a new one, this busbar helps you achieve a professional, safe, and efficient DC distribution layout.

Interesting book
Format: Paperback
I am not a lawyer, nor a writer, but rather a reader. I found the correlation of legal storytelling with sceenplay, literary narrative quite interesting. Legal trials are theater.

Highly recommended -- not just for lawyers!
Format: Paperback
I'm not a lawyer but a Classics professor looking for modern parallels to (and contrasts with) Cicero's persuasive strategies in Roman courts. This book was just what I was looking for: lucid, informative, smart, and as a bonus, well versed in narrative theory, which Meyer handles as an experienced teacher -- avoiding jargon and needless complication, illustrating the key ideas with well-known cinematic examples.

Super overview and commentary on the historiy and many iterations/amendments
Format: Hardcover
I purchased and carefully read Jeff Kosseff's "The Twenty-Six Words That Created the Internet." It is an illuminating and thorough account of all facets of the legislation including history, enactment, modifications and amendments etc. A complex subject to understand, Mr. Kosseff did an outstanding job of presenting the complicated history and details and understanding of why this is incredibly important leading up to the form that is now in use. Some reviewers complain about too much detail, but I disagree, it is very important to understand the detail. A difficult topic and a great job of presentation. I would like to have a time line e.g., something like a "herring bone" chart notating all of the critical stages of development up to the present ... from initial concepts to Section 230 rollout and the important changes / amendments in both substance and use of 230. I am now reading Koseff's latest book on a similar but different topic, "The United States of Anonymous" which deals with how the first amendment shaped the development of our online speech.

Entertaining, educational and provoking
Format: Hardcover
I really didn’t expect this level of enjoyment from reading a book about a serious law material. This book is entertaining almost like a thrilling mini series to me due to the author’s great storytelling. Vivid arguments in various courtrooms over decades, sad stories of victims, some hilarious cases (especially Smith), unjust and unfair cases, interesting judges, … I just enjoyed reading them over cover to cover. It is definitely educational. I don't have any legal background and I hardly knew Section 230. After the joyful reading, I could learn history, importance and main issues of Section 230. I believe it is a must-read to many people including software engineers like me. I couldn’t be comfortable when the author compared the amount of benefit of Section 230, which has promoted proliferation of US Internet business, to the amount of suffering of women, children, and unfairly defamed people. However, I believe the author, on purpose, provoked this discussion. Including his own sincere opinion, he introduced various discussions deeply in later chapters, which helped me to think a lot.

Interesting and clear
Format: Kindle
The book reviews the history of the law that protects interactive websites from prosecution due to defamation. The discussion is interesting and straightforward, but there are too many unimportant details in some places.
