Genasun 54.2V GVB-8 Waterproof MPPT Boost Solar Charge Controller

The Genasun GVB-8-Li-54.2V-WP is a compact waterproof MPPT boost solar charge controller designed to charge 48V nominal, 13S lithium-ion, LiPo and LiCoO₂ battery packs from lower-voltage solar panels. Instead of requiring a solar panel string with a voltage higher than the battery, the GVB-8-WP steps the panel voltage up, making it a practical choice for e-bikes, golf carts, small EVs, marine systems, industrial DC systems and other compact solar charging applications where panel space and wiring simplicity matter.

This model is the 54.2V CC/CV lithium version. It is intended for battery packs whose charging specifications match a 54.2V constant-voltage profile. Genasun’s official documentation identifies the GVB-8-Li-54.2V-WP for 48V nominal, 13S lithium cobalt, manganese or nickel chemistry packs, with battery temperature compensation disabled for lithium operation.

Boost charging for lower-voltage solar panels

Most solar charge controllers are buck controllers, meaning they require the solar array voltage to sit above the battery charge voltage. The GVB-8-WP is different. It is a voltage-boosting controller, allowing a lower-voltage panel to charge a higher-voltage battery when the panel and battery remain within the controller’s specifications. This can help simplify small vehicle and mobile solar layouts by reducing the need to series-connect smaller panels just to reach the required battery voltage.

The controller supports a maximum recommended panel power of 350W for this 54.2V lithium model, with a rated panel input current of 8A, a recommended maximum panel Vmp of 43V and a recommended maximum panel Voc of 50V at STC. The input voltage range is 0 to 60V, with charging able to begin from a minimum panel voltage of 5V.

Why choose the waterproof GVB-8-WP?

  • True MPPT boost design: Steps up lower panel voltage to charge compatible higher-voltage battery packs.
  • 48V 13S lithium profile: Factory configured for a 54.2V CC/CV charge profile.
  • Waterproof construction: IP68 environmental protection with potted electronics for exposed mobile and marine-style installations.
  • Fast tracking: 15Hz MPPT tracking speed helps the controller respond to changing light conditions.
  • Efficient operation: 96% to 99% typical electrical efficiency for the 54.2V lithium model, with 99+% typical tracking efficiency.
  • 12 AWG flying leads: Newer GVB-8-WP units from serial number 188100 use 12 AWG tinned, pre-stripped flying leads.

Built for compact mobile solar systems

The GVB-8-WP’s sealed construction and flying-lead wiring make it well suited to applications where terminal blocks may be less desirable, including roof-mounted solar charging on golf carts, e-bikes, small EVs and marine equipment. The built-in multicolour LED provides straightforward charging, standby and error indications, while the external in-line fuse helps protect the battery connection wiring when installed as directed.

Genasun specifies no fans and no relays in its controller design, helping keep the unit compact and simple. The controller’s low night consumption of 5mA is also useful in smaller battery systems where parasitic draw matters.

Important battery and installation considerations

Because this is a lithium charge controller with a fixed 54.2V CC/CV profile, the battery pack’s charge voltage, cell count and chemistry must match the controller. Genasun also recommends using lithium batteries with a Battery Management System capable of disconnecting the solar charge controller if any cell is outside its rated temperature, current or voltage range.

For a compact, waterproof MPPT boost solution for compatible 48V 13S lithium battery systems, the Genasun GVB-8-Li-54.2V-WP provides a technically strong way to harvest solar from lower-voltage panels in mobile and off-grid DC applications.

Informative, but feeling like book was created to promote other things...
Format: Kindle
There is some useful information in this book. Some possible story prompts and creative ideas for what a person can do with their work. Problem I find with constant mention of the authors books and what is in them. Makes it feel as I am reading that the author is advertising their other works to through the guise that they are teaching you about world building. There is still some little gems in the book. Just the motives for the creation of this book may have less about teaching and more about advertising.

Fantastic series by a creative artist
Format: Paperback
Amulet, a graphic novel by Kazu Kibuishi ( , ), is geared towards the 9-12 age group. However, the novel will captivate anyone that begins to read it as they are swept along a moving story with beautiful illustrations. Our young heroine Emily witnesses the death of her father in the opening pages of this novel. Emily, her mother, and her brother Nevin move into the home of their missing great grandfather. There are secrets lurking within the house, one that soon ensnares Emily's mom. She's dragged from the basement by a tentacle through an open door and Emily and Nevin must go on a rescue mission to another world. This story captivates the reader from the beginning. The reader is compelled to feel for the characters of the story, from Emily witnessing the death of her father to watching her mom being dragged away by some unknown creature. Although this is only the first part of the series the reader gets a true sense of the characters, their feelings, and their emotions and is left hanging at the end of this book and wanting more. What really sells the story are the illustrations as they capture and convey the moods of the characters and their surroundings. The drawings have a light airy quality to them, with a simple, but moody, color palette to show off the extensive use of shadows to convey emotions of the character in graphic detail. The reader is never left wanting or wondering what the characters are thinking, the colors clearly display what they feel--the age of the great-grandfather is written into the lines on his face, the fear and courage of Emily as she seeks to save her what's left of her family. As the story progresses a darker palette is used and we are left wanting the lighter colors to return. Something unique about the drawings is that when the story first begins the characters almost look undefined. While we can read their emotions they are merely shapes on a page. However, as the story progresses they gain more depth and emotion. This novel is a must read. A strong young heroine, with monsters and robots as well, enough to keep any crowd entertained. The moving illustrations and compelling story make this a great read and the book is highly recommended for all ages.

A Magical Start to an Epic Series
Format: Paperback
I read Amulet: The Stonekeeper with my class, and the students couldn’t get enough of it! The artwork is absolutely stunning, and the story grabbed their attention right away. Even reluctant readers were eager to see what happened next. The mix of fantasy, adventure, and relatable characters makes it the perfect series to hook middle-grade readers. As soon as we finished, they were already asking for the next book in the series!
