Nordmann Kerstboom – Instant Winter Elegance

Nordmann Kerstboom is simply Dutch for Nordmann Christmas tree. The Nordmann fir is a dense, glossy, dark-green tree just waiting to be decorated. It’s a classic choice - perfect for homes that favor enduring style over seasonal fuss.

Plant Personality & Aesthetic Appeal

The Nordmann fir features broad, flattened needles that are glossy dark green on top and lighter beneath, producing a soft, velvety look and tactile appeal. Branches are evenly tiered with a naturally conical, symmetrical habit that holds ornaments well. There is no variegation - the color is consistent and rich. Its neat architecture suits both minimalist and richly decorated schemes. Go Scandinavian simple with single-color lights, or layer glass baubles and ribbons for a traditional display. Place on a living-room floor stand, near a fireplace, or center it in an open foyer where its silhouette can be appreciated from multiple angles.

Growth Habit & Size Potential

The Nordmann fir is a slow to moderate grower, so don’t worry about taking over a space once you welcome one into your home. The tree can have the potential to last 5 weeks indoors, that is, with the right care.

Light & Location Needs

The Nordmann Kerstboom, of course, prefers full sun to partial shade outdoors and is hardy in cool to temperate climates. Indoors, they are best kept near bright windows and away from direct heat sources (aka fireplaces). It tolerates short periods inside but does not thrive long term in warm, dry interiors. Once your tree has served its seasonal purpose, consider transferring yours outdoors.

Care Level & Maintenance Tips

Water frequently while indoors: keep the root ball or stand reservoir topped up to prevent the base drying out; a 2 to 3 cm layer of water surface is often enough for cut trees. For potted trees, water when the top 2 to 3 cm of soil feels dry and avoid waterlogging. Use well-draining, slightly acidic to neutral soil for planted specimens. Keep away from radiators and direct heat because humidity helps needle longevity. Common mistakes include letting the stand run dry and placing the tree in warm, drafty locations, which accelerate needle drop.

Evergreen and Serene with the Nordmann Kerstboom

A carefully chosen Christmas tree offers more than decoration. It creates atmosphere. The Nordmann Kerstboom has little to no fragrance, excellent for folks who are sensitive to strong smells. This is also said to have strong needle retention, which saves you trouble from having to keep sweeping during the holidays.

Why You’ll Love the Nordmann Kerstboom

  • Strong Branches: Great for holding up ornaments.
  • A Classic Tree: A fir worthy of the Christmas card.

  • A Strong Base: A hardy tree.

Simplistic and Inappropriate
Format: Paperback
I was hoping this book would provide insights into how to present complex information in a more comprehensible, useful format, using PowerPoint as the tool. Instead, the overall gist of this book is that presentations should be "dumbed down" as much as possible. The theme the author presents is that presentations should be story based. This is reasonable. However, the method the author recommends is that essentially *all* meaningful, complex (or, as the author prefers "boring") content be removed from the presentation. Presentations then become nothing more than catchy headlines and colorful graphics. All content should be in the presenter's notes (not typically to be provided). This is juvenile and useless and frankly reflects a complete lack of understanding of how presentations are made in a complex business environment.

On the right track
Format: Paperback
This book is a good introduction about how to use story-telling techniques in PowerPoint presentations. There are some good ideas here that you won't find in technical manuals. If you don't know film techniques these will be eye-opening. But the book could have been much stronger if it were to push these concepts to the next level. I saw a PowerPoint presentation with Andy Goodman, who teaches more or less the same thing, and his presentation nailed these concepts more cleanly than this book does. But again, this book is definitely worth checking out if you haven't studied storytelling before.

An Essential
Format: Paperback
I've created PowerPoints for executives in major corporations and national non-profits for years now, and this is one of the first books I suggest anyone who needs to create their own PowerPoint look to. Beyond Bullet points is accessable enough that the novice PowerPoint user can understand what's going on and use the lessons in his or her next presentation; it's also detailed and challenging enough that even an old salt like me can find things to learn and do. Don't be another person who stands on stage reading their PowerPoint, and don't let reading your slides distract the audience from your presentation; follow the suggestions in this book and wow your audience.

Essential reading for PowerPoint presenters.
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
Cliff shows details how to improve our PowerPoint presentations. He gives concrete and simple steps to transform a message into a targeted presentation. All of us have suffered from presenters who went over their allotted time because they had vital information to give us, yet we still didn't know their main point. Many have seen slide decks burdened with dozens of bullet points. Did the volume of points yield more clarity or did they dull our ability to focus on the message? Probably not. Read Cliff's book. Follow his method and you'll be a more effective presenter.
