Перемога під Зборовом примусила поляків підтвердити старовинні права українського козацтва і таким чином заклала підвалини української державності. Однак поразка під Берестечком і наступні тяжкі битви з польським коронним військом довели неможливість збереження Української держави тільки силами українців, що й призвело до рішення, яке було прийняте 8 січня 1654 року на Переяславській Раді, про підписання договору між Україною та Росією.
