While the overall recommendations (by AAP, World Health Organization (WHO), and others) are to avoid alcohol, a small or standard drink is considered acceptable, and breastfeeding should be avoided for at least 2 hours after consumption. The reason is that alcohol is metabolized and eliminated from the blood and breast over time.
