Amanda Phillips originally trained as a painter then pursued a career as a chartered architect, became a university tutor at Edinburgh College of Art and Napier University for over a decade taught architecture, graphic design, product design and drawing. She has won awards in both architecture and painting. Amanda now paints full time.

She works mostly in acrylic but likes to experiment to keep her work fresh, often using different media on the same painting. The landscape is her main focus, and she paints the extraordinary in what may look an ordinary view. She uses space and order and the conscious decision making process mixed with the fluidity and instinctive movement which comes from using paint.
