At the beginning of the year it was reported that Tesco was phasing out CDs and DVDs in its UK stores, with plans to stop selling physical media altogether by the end of February 2022. So obviously the time is right to finally commit Bog Shed's recorded output to CD (and digital platforms) for the first time.

The band formed in 1983 and over the next four years released their debut EP Let Them Eat Bog Shed, followed by two albums; Step On It and Brutal, as well as aView compilation of their John Peel Sessions (Tried & Tested Public Speaker, originally a 6-track EP). The version of Tried and Tested Public Speaker released here features 20 of their John Peel session tracks, 14 of which have never before been released.

Mike and Mark were born in Liverpool in 1961 but met at school in Ormskirk aged 9. Their 70s were T.O.T.P, Top 20, Fluff Freeman, John Peel, Probe, Eric's and the peculiar hippy/ punk crossover of the free festivals. Every Saturday they would play rubbish guitars through a home made amp. After leaving Polytechnic Mike and Mark moved to Hebden Bridge soon to be followed by Phil who moved into Northwell Cottage in Heptonstall. This was an ideal space to play and rehearse. Stone-built and clinging to a hill with the toilet in a shed down a steep path next to a well for your water.

Drummers were tried, but were either temporary or just plain wrong. Tris, who befriended the others drinking in the Trades Club, got the job having never played the drums. The Bradford gig on Who Scoffed The Trill? was 2 weeks later and these live songs are early tunes that never got recorded. There were many more, but C90's got recycled and we will never again hear Open Up In The Name Of Fred Feast or I saw Cleo Laine In A Phonebox. Who Scoffed The Trill?'s 22 tracks are exclusive to this box set and won't be available on streaming platforms.

Their debut EP Let Them Eat Bog Shed was released on John Robb's Vinyl Drip label in 1985 and led to their track Run To The Temple appearing on the NME's now-legendary C86 cassette. However, this was the age of DIY and Phil decided they should be even indie-er and start their own label, Shelfish, having declined offers from the Creation and Abstract labels.

Phil was technically the best musician in the band, he could play and sing every Beatles song. John Robb describes him and the cottage, 'A total one-off, Phil was a Stanley Baxter lookalike with flared nostrils and a flared mind who was funny as fuck and had a brilliant quirky worldview. His house was an extension of his unique personae. Every morning at breakfast a horse from the neighbouring field would poke its head through the kitchen window and nibble bits of toast and listen to the clatter of cans being swept up.'

Phil still organised gigs in Britain and Europe but the well-known stresses of travelling in the back of a van for miles and miles to be manic for an hour started to tell. What had been creative tension just became tension. So in 1987 it stopped. Phil had fallen out with Mark and Tris by then and died of throat cancer in 2006. Tris went on to play with A Witness before joining Jackdaw with Crowbar. He played in many side projects on a variety of instruments until he died of brain cancer in 2008. Mike still draws and came up with the new sleeve artwork.

Parent trap vibes
Format: Kindle
3 .75⭐️ round up to 4, and 3.5🌶 Ok, so the premise of this book drew me in. Who doesn't love a little twin swapping a la the parent trap? Add in a side of celebrity vs small town cowgirl and you've got the basic concepts here. The twins Zoey and Amelia couldn't be more opposites. That alone should have been easily discernible. The fact none of Zoey's costars figured it out is crazy, but that just added to the hijinks of the swap. Lindsay, the poor PA who has to corral the TV stars at the tv con, really didn't understand her sudden attraction to the slightly different Zoey. The slow burn between Amelia and Lindsay will draw you in. The fallout from the twin swap let's you see what could have happened if Amelia and Lindsay didn't meet under the false pretense. The escape back to the farm and plot to save the animal rescue let's the slow moving story unfold. One of the small detractions for me was the inability to communicate feelings between the FMCs. they do end up speaking their truth/ feelings but it seemed to drag out a bit too long. All in all, I enjoyed this story, it easy could be another hallmark holiday movie. If you're looking for that cute animal loving back story this has it in spades. I mean I would help the Mizzou Moos in a New York second.

Slow-Paced Sapphic Romance
Format: Kindle
Amelia runs a rescue farm for mini-animals - cows, donkeys, Highland cows, and goats. She and the farm are struggling, but agrees to stand-in for her actress twin sister, Zoey, at a conference in Las Vegas because Zoes agrees to pay her what she would be paid and assures her nothing can go wrong since she would be in Vegas the next morning. But of course things do go wrong, very wrong. Kris Bryant’s latest book moves along at a leisurely pace, but has all the elements her readers expect from her books - well-developed main characters and secondary characters, including the animals on the rescue farm. The storyline is pretty much like all sapphic romances - girl gets girl, girl loses girl, girl gets girl back, and they live happily ever after. However, Bryant has added a few unexpected twists, including a nasty bad guy, that keep the book interesting and doesn’t bog the book down in angst and/boredom. If you are a fan of Kris Bryant, you will undoubtedly enjoy this book. If this is your book by this author, you will probably want to pick up a few of her earlier books to explore the talents of a gifted author. My thanks to Bold Stroke Books for an e-ARC.

Good Read
Format: Kindle
I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review. Amelia needs the money for Mizzou Moos, a mini highland cow rescue that she owns so she agrees to step in for her twin sister Zoey who can be at two places at once they did before what could go wrong. Amelia meets Lindsay who is a PA what shocking to Lindsay is her sudden attraction to Zoey when she learn the truth it’s becomes a slow burn between Amelia and Lindsay. I find it very funny with Zoey costars who couldn’t tell the difference when they spend a lot of time together because they both are different and it’s shows. Cute read some angst and can’t go wrong with animals in the story.

Loved
Format: Kindle
This story had me hooked from just the first few chapters. I literally could not put it down, I love a good forbidden love story and this was just *chefs kiss*. I could feel the chemistry between Ana and Rachel from the moment they met. Their conversations are so well written, I loved the banter between them both. The drama throughout the book had me saying "just one more chapter before I take a break". I appreciated that you can tell that the author was knowledgeable about both of the main characters profession and religion and that the book took a focus on recognizing the characters differences and showing Ana take the time to learn about Rachel's religion. That was such a great touch that I loved. The only reason that I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 is that the resolution of the drama and story seemed a bit anticlimactic. There was all this tension from secrets kept that once they came out both characters seemed to move on and get their happily ever after. Overall, I loved this book and its characters. I definitely will be picking up any book that this author puts out!
