Without fingering and fitted with a simple mouthpiece, the single pipe allows even the novice to produce sound immediately, and with practice of the diaphragmatic impulsion (increased air-pressure producing higher overtones) the flutes invite in an uncomplicated way a spontaneous richly improvised play.
