Interessant aan deze set is dat Leica voor deze lens de verkeerde donkergrijze doos heeft gebruikt. De Noctilux lenzen in chroom hebben de code 11702, terwijl deze doos is voorzien van het label 11686, wat de zwarte Noctilux lens is. Op het label aan de onderkant staat echter 11702 en het juiste serienummer (zie laatste foto). Op de buitenste grijze doos staat ook 11702 en het juiste nummer, evenals op het papierwerk.

De originele Leica 50mm f1.2 Noctilux werd geproduceerd van 1966 tot 1975 en was de eerste lens met asferische lenselementen. In feite had die lens 2 asferische lenselementen en deze waren met de hand gepolijst. Je kunt je voorstellen hoe moeilijk het was om die lens te produceren. Die lens heeft unieke eigenschappen, vooral met het diafragma wijd open. De lens is beroemd en iedereen houdt van de unieke bokeh van die lens.

In de nieuwe Leica 50mm f1.2 Noctilux-M ASPH-lens probeerde Leica de originele kenmerken te behouden. De berekening en constructie van de nieuwe lens lijken zo veel op de originele lens dat de resultaten vrijwel identiek zijn.

Heel interessant aan deze lens is dat Leica in de jaren '60 ongeveer 5 of 6 prototype Noctilux lenzen heeft gemaakt en deze waren ook chroom. Het productiemodel was alleen beschikbaar in zwart. Deze huidige lens in chroom zal zeer interessant zijn voor zowel gebruikers als verzamelaars. Er zullen niet veel beschikbaar zijn op de markt en samen met de originele in chroom een absolute must have voor echte verzamelaars.

De lens is niet veel gebruikt zoals op de foto's te zien is. De lens is in topstaat met volledige verpakking, alle dozen, alle accessoires en alle papieren. Zoals gezegd erg interessant omdat het met de verkeerde doos wordt geleverd.
