Fontanafredda Derthona Colli Tortonensi Timorasso wordt gecreëerd door een van de meest illustere wijnhuizen van Italië. Fontanafredda heeft een lange, maar vooral boeiende geschiedenis. Het begon allemaal in 1858. Toenmalige koning van Sardinië en de latere koning van het verenigde Italië, kocht een wijngaard in het prachtige Piemonte. Niet voor zichzelf, maar voor zijn maîtresse. Nog steeds zijn het de nazaten van deze maîtresse - en de koning - die verantwoordelijk zijn voor het reilen en zeilen van wijnhuis Fontanafredda. De ligging van Fontanafredda is ideaal. Gelegen in de mooiste en meest unieke dorpjes waar volgens kenners de beste Barolo wijnen vandaan komen. Naast de prachtige trossen Nebbiolo druiven vindt je verspreid over heel Piemonte ook imposante wijngaarden met Barbera, Dolcetto en Arneis. Echter blijft het de Barolo wijn waar Fontanafredda het bekendst mee is. Deze Derthona van Fontanafredda wordt gemaakt van de Timorasso druif. Een extreem zeldzame druif waarvan er wereldwijd slechts 40 hectare van aangeplant is. Steeds meer wijnliefhebbers ontdekken deze parel, dus wees er snel bij: er komen jaarlijks maar weinig flessen Derthona vanuit Piemonte richting Nederland. Deze ‘witte barolo’ is een groot festijn voor de zintuigen. Het unieke karakter van de Timorasso druif komt goed tot uiting wanneer de fles geopend wordt.
