In het hart van Collio krijgt Pinot Grigio een veel serieuzer en gelaagder profiel dan het lichte, anonieme beeld dat vaak aan deze druif kleeft. Ronco dei Folo Pinot Grigio Collio D.O.C. 2024 komt uit een van de meest karaktervolle witte wijngebieden van Friuli en bouwt zijn stijl op rond handmatige oogst, vinificatie zonder schilcontact en rijping sur lie. Dat geeft de wijn meer textuur en lengte, terwijl het fruit helder en verfijnd blijft.

Wijngaarden en regio

De herkomst is hier bepalend voor de stijl, juist omdat Collio tot de sterkste witte wijnzones van Noord-Italië hoort. Ronco dei Folo wordt samengesteld uit een nauwkeurige selectie van druiven uit het hart van de Collio DOC, waar bodem en klimaat zorgen voor een uitgesproken aromatische expressie van witte druiven.

  • Ligging / Herkomst: Deze wijn komt uit de Collio DOC in Friuli, een heuvelachtig grensgebied in het noordoosten van Italië dat sterk met verfijnde witte wijnen is verbonden. Ronco dei Folo positioneert deze Pinot Grigio heel duidelijk in het hart van die appellatie.
  • Wijngaard: De aanplant ligt op 5.500 stokken per hectare. Dat is vrij compact en helpt om de druiven meer concentratie en regelmaat mee te geven.
  • Opbrengst: De productie ligt gemiddeld op 7 ton druiven per hectare, met een maximaal saprendement van 70%. Dat past bij een wijn die niet alleen op frisheid, maar ook op structuur en aromatische precisie is gebouwd.

Vinificatie en rijping

De kelderaanpak is hier strak en precies, met veel aandacht voor frisheid, zuiverheid en textuur.

  • Oogst & Selectie: De druiven worden met de hand geoogst in de eerste 10 dagen van september. Dat geeft meer controle over de kwaliteit van het fruit en sluit goed aan bij de serieuze stijl van deze Collio Pinot Grigio.
  • Vergisting: De vinificatie verloopt zonder schilcontact, na koude statische bezinking, in roestvrijstalen tanks bij 16 °C. Daardoor blijft de fruitexpressie loepzuiver en krijgt de wijn een strakke, heldere lijn.
  • Rijping / Houtopvoeding: De wijn rijpt minimaal 3 maanden sur lie. Dat geeft hem extra textuur en een bredere, meer verfijnde mondstructuur zonder invloed van hout.
  • Flesrijping: Na de tankrijping volgt nog minimaal 2 maanden flesrijping. Dat helpt om het geheel rustiger en harmonieuzer in het glas te krijgen.

Druivensamenstelling

Hier draait alles om 1 druif die in Collio duidelijk meer diepte en structuur kan geven dan in een eenvoudiger stijl.

  • Pinot Grigio – Collio: Pinot Grigio vormt de volledige basis en geeft de wijn zijn combinatie van peer, appel, meloen en een verfijnde, licht kruidige spanning.

Proefnotities en serveertips

Licht van kleur, met in de rijpere fase een subtiele koperzweem. In de geur en smaak herken je sinaasappel, appel en meloen, in een stijl die tegelijk complex, gestructureerd en elegant blijft. De afdronk is verfijnd en aanhoudend, met genoeg spanning om hem heel prettig aan tafel te maken.

  • Serveertemperatuur: 12–12 °C sluit het best aan op de stijl zoals deze wijn officieel wordt geadviseerd, omdat dat bereik zijn fruit, textuur en spanning mooi laat spreken.
  • Gerechten: Visgerechten en voorgerechten sluiten hier heel natuurlijk op aan, omdat de wijn voldoende frisheid en structuur heeft om lichte, verfijnde smaken goed te begeleiden.

We really liked this ice maker. The good-the water reservoir and ice basket are larger than in our last one, so we only refilled this one maybe once a day (family of 4). The ice didn't build up on the side and trigger the ice maker full shut off like our previous one. It is quieter than our last one too, and seemed to make ice just as fast. The bad-it doesn't turn itself back on as the ice melts and refills the water reservoir. The really bad-we've only used distilled and RO water in it. We've been fighting with it for a couple of months now to get it to make ice. We've cleaned it over and over with the cleaning solution. We also cleaned the vents as suggested with a vacuum and compressed air. It's to the point that it literally makes 2 ice cubes every time we start it, and that's it. We bought it 6 months, and we're giving up on it. We'll try another brand.

Almost Perfect

Came from another ice maker and I miss two things: 1) size. This unit is tiny. It might be good if it’s just for you and maybe one other person, but for a family of four where everyone uses ice for their drinks and water bottles around the clock, this was constantly empty and needing more water. 2) the ability to start making ice on its own after there’s enough water. It has a sensor to tell you when it’s full of ice and it has a sensor to tell you when the water level is low, but it doesn’t have a sensor to tell it when the water has been refilled. You have to push the “ice making” button twice to get it to restart. Not a huge problem, but if you’re like me and leave your ice machine on 24hrs a day, you could come back to an empty ice machine after the ice in the basket melts. With my old ice maker, the machine would sense the water was low and stop. But then all the ice that was already made and in the basket would melt and fill the reservoir again and the machine would sense that and start back up on making a new batch small gripes, I know. Overall, it’s a nice, cute little ice maker and my kids love nugget ice.

Compact, lightweight, and useful milk frother.
I ordered the Electric Handheld Milk Frother in the Starlight Black color. I don’t drink coffee, let alone fancy coffees where I would normally need a milk frother, so I bought this for one reason and one reason only: scrambled eggs. I make a ton of scrambled eggs. Now, I can whisk eggs by hand just as well as the next person, and I’m not entirely convinced a frother whips them better than I can, but regular whisks take up a ton of room in my drawers and this does not. I really just wanted something compact that could whip my eggs into a nice frothy consistency without taking up much space. Even better, this one looks nice enough to just leave sitting on the counter where I can grab it easily. I will note that although I can hand whisk easily enough, there are many people who cannot due to arthritis or other issues, and this whisk is a brilliant tool for them. If you actually want to use a frother for other things, this one does perform very well. It has three speeds and comes with three different attachments: a spring whisk for latte and cappuccino foam, a balloon whisk for eggs and cream, and a hook whisk for blending protein powders or mixes without lumps. I actually ended up using the hook whisk while making pot roast. I mixed the seasoning packet with water using this frother and it blended everything perfectly with no lumps at all. The frother itself is lightweight, pretty quiet, and very easy to clean. The attachments detach easily and just need a quick rinse under soapy water. It also comes with a magnetic wireless charging dock that uses the included USB-C cable. The docking connection is simple and secure, and charging has been completely hassle-free so far. The LED display shows battery levels at 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%, which is useful for knowing when it needs to be charged. Overall, it’s a simple, convenient kitchen gadget that does exactly what I wanted it to do and I am quite satisfied with it.
