Tilia is een luxegaren, gesponnen van 70% kidmohair en 30% moerbeizijde.

Technisch gezien is Tilia een dun kamgaren gesponnen en geborsteld. Mohairvezels hebben alle goede eigenschappen die we kennen van wol. Ze zijn warm, prachtig en kunnen vocht absorberen, waardoor kledingstukken gebreid met mohair aangenaam zijn om te dragen.

In vergelijking met wol zijn mohairvezels glanzend en een beetje sterker. Door de millennia heen is zijde een van de meest gevraagde vezels geweest. Het is glanzend, mooi, sterk en uiterst aangenaam om te dragen. De combinatie van zijde en een wolk mohair is een van de meest exquise en luxueuze garens waarmee je ooit zou willen breien.

Mohair is afkomstig van de angorageit, die oorspronkelijk uit het gebied rond Ankara in Turkije komt, vandaar de naam. Het woord mohair vindt zijn oorsprong in het Arabisch, en de angorageit wordt soms de mohairgeit genoemd. Wij spinnen onze Tilia van mohair afkomstig van boerderijen in Zuid-Afrika.

Moerbeizijde is de beste zijde die verkrijgbaar is. Het is glanzend en de vezels zijn consistent in dikte en sterker dan andere zijdevezels. Moerbeizijde wordt al eeuwenlang in China geproduceerd en is een belangrijk exportproduct. In de oudheid was China het enige land dat zijde produceerde.

Je kunt Tilia op zichzelf breien, maar we raden ook aan om het samen met een van onze andere garens te breien. Saga, Alva en Vilja zijn bijvoorbeeld heel geschikt om samen met Tilia te breien.
