Sommige oorbellen zijn rustig, maar toch allesbehalve saai. Ivy Geruit is zo’n paar. De vorm is een oneven, organische cirkel: net niet perfect rond, en net daardoor zo mooi. Het geeft Ivy een speelse, moderne uitstraling, alsof de vorm met de hand werd getekend. En dan is er de gravure: een geruit patroon in een zacht goud-groene tint dat subtiel oplicht wanneer het licht erop valt. Het is geen schreeuwerige print, maar een verfijnd detail dat je look net dat beetje extra geeft.

Wat ik zo leuk vind aan deze kleur, is dat ze moeilijk te vatten is in één woord. Ze heeft iets warms door het goud, maar ook iets fris door de groene ondertoon. Daardoor combineert Ivy Geruit verrassend makkelijk. Ze staat prachtig bij neutrale outfits zoals beige, wit, zwart en denim, maar ook bij warme aardetinten en zachte groenen. Dit is zo’n paar dat je zowel in de herfst als in de lente graag draagt, omdat het altijd "klopt" zonder dat het te voorspelbaar wordt.

Met een formaat van ongeveer 2,5 cm bij 2,5 cm is Ivy duidelijk aanwezig, maar nog steeds super draagbaar. Het is statement zonder zwaar te worden. En dat is het voordeel van acryl: je krijgt de impact van een groter ontwerp, maar het blijft super lichtgewicht. Je kan Ivy dus makkelijk de hele dag dragen, zonder zware oren of een trekgevoel.

Zoals al mijn oorbellen wordt Ivy 100% met de hand gemaakt in mijn atelier in Anzegem. Ik werk op een basis van zwart acryl en graveer het geruite patroon met zorg, zodat de lijnen mooi strak blijven. Daarna werk ik ze af met UV-hars. Die glanzende laag zorgt voor een mooie, gladde finish, geeft extra diepte aan de gravure en beschermt het oppervlak zodat je oorbellen lang mooi blijven. Het is die finish die ervoor zorgt dat het patroon net wat meer gaat leven in het licht.

Ook als je gevoelige oren hebt, zit je goed. De oorstekers zijn gemaakt van hypoallergeen RVS, wat helpt om irritatie te vermijden en zorgeloos te dragen. Ivy Geruit is dus perfect als je graag statement oorbellen draagt, maar niet wil inboeten op comfort.

Feels like a real upgrade, but maybe priced a little high

This is one of those things you don’t think much about until you switch to a better one. Right away you notice the weight. It actually stays put when you pull a sheet instead of sliding all over the counter or tipping up, which already makes it better than most cheap holders. The spring arm does help keep the roll under control so you’re not pulling half the roll by accident. One handed use works most of the time, but it depends on the paper towels. Thinner rolls tear clean without any effort. Thicker ones can still need a second hand here and there, so it’s not perfect but still better than a basic stand. Build quality feels solid. The finish looks clean and not cheap, and it wipes down easily. It definitely looks like something you’d keep out on the counter instead of hiding. Only real downside is the price. It does what it’s supposed to do and does it well, but it’s still a paper towel holder at the end of the day. You’re paying for the weight and design more than anything. If you’re tired of flimsy ones, this is a noticeable step up. Just depends if you care enough to spend extra on something this simple.

It stands upright on a weighted non slip base that provides stability during use and it is equipped with a spring loaded arm intended to assist with one handed tearing. While it is marketed as a one handed tear dispenser I have noticed that it depends on the type of paper towels you are using. If I am using thinner cheaper rolls the tear is effortless but with my preferred thick Bounty paper towels the tension is not always enough to tear them off cleanly with just one hand so I usually end up holding it down to get a clean rip. ​The major pros of this dispenser are the weighted non slip base that keeps it from sliding around and the stainless steel finish that makes maintenance simple with just a quick wipe. The main con is that it struggles with heavy duty paper towels often requiring two hands to tear without tipping or pulling the whole roll which might be frustrating if you are expecting a true one handed experience every single time. Still it is a functional and attractive piece that keeps my kitchen organized and as long as you do not mind using both hands for the thicker brands it is a solid addition to any home.
