Iepen is een vrij lastige houtsoort om te bewerken. Iepen is mooi hout door de tekening die het heeft maar heeft wel vaak noesten en scheuren. Hou dus rekening hiermee! Scheuren zijn op te lossen door het aan de (onderkant) te verbinden met bijvoorbeeld een zwaluwstaart. Noesten zijn op te vullen met kneedbaar hout.

Gedroogd: KD (8-10%)

Informatie over deze houtsoort:

Ringporige houtsoort. Groeiringen opvallend door de grote vroeghoutvaten, wat het hout een aantrekkelijke vlamtekening geeft maar de nerf grof maakt. Iepenhout is vast, taai, vrij licht en meestal gelijkmatig van structuur. Canadees Iepen of Rock Elm is zwaarder, harder, sterker en taaier dan Europees Iepen. Japans Iepen komt met Europees Iepen overeen, maar is egaler van kleur en heeft meer glans. Het is fijner van structuur, iets zachter en ook gemakkelijker te bewerken. Amerikaans Iepen wordt af en toe op de markt aangeboden. Het kernhout van Europees Iepen is lichtbruin tot dof donkerbruin, soms met een groenachtige glans. Het spint is geelwit. Van Soft Elm is het kernhout licht grijsbruin tot rozebruin, het brede spint grijswit tot lichtbruin. Het kernhout van Red Elm is roodbruin tot donkerbruin gekleurd met smal grijswit tot lichtbruin spint. Door de Iepenziekte (veroorzaakt door een schimmel die de boom na enkele jaren doodt) is het Europese Iepenbestand drastisch afgenomen. waardoor Iepenhout nog maar weinig wordt aangeboden.

      My puppy was chewing everything and this satisfied her urge to chew. As a bonus she also loves playing fetch with it. The rope is about 8 inches long overall, but only about 3 inches from the insides of one knot to the inside of the other knot. This is great for a puppy or small dog. My puppy loves to chew on this rope, especially at the knots. When we first got this rope we could play tug of war with it, but as she has grown, we eventually needed a longer rope for safety playing tug of war so my hands don’t get too close to her mouth. We have had this one for about 3 months and it is holding up really well. It has survived the washing machine nicely. My puppy is a chihuahua mix and is currently 7 months old and about 10 pounds. She is probably an average chewer. Definitely not a dog that destroys a toy in a day.

      I will admit, I thought their picture was off, because when I saw 16" in the title I was expecting the distance between the knots to be 16 inches in length. So if you're looking for a good length tug-of-war rope for a medium to large dog, look somewhere else. I'm not returning it, it's good quality cotton rope asides that. My dog needs a new toy and cotton ones are harder to find. Next time I'm going to their amazon store directly to look for what I wanted though. I will buy from them again, I like the quality and the fact that, for once, cotton is actually cotton.
