8vo. Original publisher's paper-backed boards with remnants of printed label to spine (restored), contemporary bookseller's label inside front cover, uncut as issued; pp. vii, [5, publisher's list of law books and an update on the conduct of privateers regarding some newly founded republic on the Continent], 74, 73*-74*, 75-146, 145*-146*, 147-168; wear to extremities, spine with expert restorations, a little spotting internally, a very good copy of a great rarity.

First edition. Thomas Hartwell Horne (1780-1862) was a theologian, bibliographer, polemicist and scholar. Why he was chosen to write such a specialist volume destined only for a small circle of legal professionals at the Admiralty Court is not evident. 'Under Sir William Scott, arguably the greatest Judge of its long history, the High Court of Admiralty was during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars one of the most influential legal bodies in the land. It dealt not only with the technicalities of seizures in prize, but with the numerous related issues of nationality, neutrality, sovereignty and jurisdiction at a time when all those matters were frequently fluid and their application uncertain. The law that the Court sought to administer was not the common law of England, but international law, or the law of nations as it was then (perhaps more accurately) called. The procedures of the Court, situated at Doctors’ Commons, were in contested cases adversarial rather than investigative, thus following British legal tradition, but most of the evidence was documentary and witnesses were seldom called in person … In consequence, Scott's judgments often had much to say on the law of nations as then understood, and many of the principles he enunciated have survived, in customary or codified form, to this day' (Richart Hill, Neutrality, Sovereignty and Jurisdiction: Two Cases in the Admiralty Court, 1798–1805, OUP, online).

Library Hub locates only two copies, in the British Library and at University of York.

A Must-Have for Sensitive Skin
Size: 5 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
recently tried La Roche-Posay sunscreen and I’m really impressed! 🌞 The texture is lightweight, non-greasy, and absorbs quickly without leaving a white cast, which is a big plus for daily wear. It feels gentle on my skin and doesn’t clog pores, making it perfect for sensitive or acne-prone skin. I also love that it provides strong, broad-spectrum protection while still feeling breathable. Overall, it’s become my go-to sunscreen—I actually enjoy applying it every morning because it feels more like skincare than sunscreen. Definitely worth it! I would be honored if you would consider me to receive a PR package. I’d love the opportunity to try more of your products and create authentic content that highlights the benefits of La Roche-Posay skincare. Thank you so much for your time and consideration! Warm regards, Andrea Mohanlall

It feels very good on the skin.
Size: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I’ve been using this sunscreen for about a week now, and honestly, I’ve liked it even more than I expected. The skin on my face feels much softer and healthier, and one thing I’ve definitely noticed is that my dark circles are gradually looking a bit lighter and less tired. I love it because it doesn’t feel heavy, absorbs quickly, and doesn’t leave a greasy residue. I also like that it works well under makeup or just on its own for everyday use. For now, I’m giving it 4 stars because I haven’t been using it for very long yet and want to see more results, but so far, I definitely feel a difference in my skin. If I continue to see more positive changes, I’ll come back to update my review.

Blends nicely, is not greasy.

Light, blends nicely into skin. Does a good job of blocking the sun. I will buy it again before the summer is over.

Feels like nothing!
Size: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Fantastic! I never write reviews but this is incredible. Just as advertised it dries quickly, doesn’t feel oily and doesn’t leave marks. And the coverage is no joke in this AZ sun! Held up during Memorial Day weekend at the pool all day. Excellent all around!
