When to Replace
- The chain produces fine sawdust instead of coarse wood chips.
- Cutting requires excessive force or pressure.
- The chain smokes even when properly lubricated and tensioned.
- Cutters are damaged, chipped, or worn down significantly.
- The chain has a broken drive link, tie-strap, or cutter.
Installation Tips
- Always disconnect the power source (unplug or remove battery/spark plug) before servicing the chain.
- Wear protective gloves during installation.
- Clean the guide bar groove and oil holes before seating the new chain.
- Ensure cutters face forward in the direction of rotation on the top of the bar.
- Properly tension the chain according to your saw's manual; it should be snug but still pull freely by hand.
