"Stoney Vineyard, planted from 1991; hand picked; matured 2 years in 50% new French oak barriques. The essence of merlot. A rich bouquet of deep cassis, blackcurrant and a lifted air of freshly cut truffles entices. The palate holds its ripeness with confidence, driven by firm, fine tannin endurance and well-harmonised acid poise. A touch of oxidation on the close suggests it's now hit its prime, in spite of a decade of endurance still in those tannins. Two bottles were identical. Screw caps may well have aided its cause."
