The red maple (Acer rubrum) is one of the 10 Canadian maple species that collectively represent this nation, and the tree’s irregularly toothed leaf one of the first of its kind to change colours each fall—is a sight to behold on the five coins that form this fractional set. From the large 1 oz. coin to the tiny 1/20 oz. piece, each coin’s reverse features the same intricate portrait of an Acer rubrum twig and leaves. And for 2024, we’ve enhanced the 1 oz. coin with selective gold plating that mimics the warm, luminous glow of autumn sunshine.
