Billy Wilder's Sunset Boulevard was a critical and commercial success on its release in 1950 and remains a classic of film noir and one of the best-known Hollywood films about Hollywood. Both its opening, with William Holden as the screenwriter Joe Gillis floating facedown in ageing star Norma Desmond's (Gloria Swanson) pool, and lines such as 'I am big, it's the pictures that got small' are some of the most memorable in Classical Hollywood cinema.
Steven Cohan's study of the film draws on original archival research to shed new light on the film's production history, and the contribution to the film's success and meanings of director Wilder, stars Holden and Swanson but also supporting actors Erich von Stroheim, Nancy Olson (who plays Betty Schaefer), Cecil B. DeMille, and Hedda Hopper, as well as costumier Edith Head, and composer Franz Waxman. Cohan considers the film both as a 'backstudio' picture (a movie about Hollywood) and as a film noir, and in the context of McCarthyism, blacklisting and the Hollywood Ten.
Cohan explores how the film was marketed, its reception and afterlife, tracing how the film is at once a product of its own particular historical moment as the movie industry was transitioning out of the studio era, yet one that still speaks powerfully to contemporary audiences, and speculates on the reasons for its enduring appeal.

It really does the job!

This stuff actually works really well. It brought all my plastic back to life. And although I don't think it's designed to use on metal my toolbox is black and it looked faded and I did the toolbox with it and it looks brand new now. There's a die in this product that makes it last longer than most other products I believe. And if your plastics are really bad like some of mine were give it to treatments and you'll be amazed. You have to let it dry for a while it will be sticky depending on the climate for a day or so but it's pretty much dry it won't you know smudge or anything but it just feels sticky to the touch for a day or two. I've been through the car wash a few times since I treated it and it didn't hurt that new finished.
I do recommend this product.

Excellent results, easy to use, impressed!

I used the glide coat ceramic sponge applicators (it’s what I had) and the absorption was perfect. Application on trim pieces was super easy. Had to get a little particular around my mirrors and window trim (I didn’t tape, oops) I used 4-5 throwaway microfiber towels to wipe excess. Super pleased with 1st coat, may go back for seconds on my tonneau. I left each section to cure for about 7 minutes then wiped with towel. Leaves a nice matte finish that pulls out the sparkles in my Raptor trim. No sticky residue leftover.

Very good but over priced!

Great product and works very well. I was disappointed because of the high price and the small size bottle. But other than that it’s a very good product and makes my work van look clean, shiny clean. My van is white, but it was easy to clean it if I missed up. Good but over priced!

Super good

Super easy to use and seems to dry quickly. I think it’s a great value for the price. I can’t say how long the results last for but the process is easy enough and the results are good enough that I’d be down for doing it every couple months. It dries black and made my trim look brand new. Honestly the hardest part was just taping around the side mirrors. You should definitely get this if you’re on the fence about it.
